The free demo is out, and where it stops

The free browser demo of A Short Sail is on itch.io. Why it ends at the second Golden Thread, and what streamers and video makers can do with it.

The cat hands over a parcel to a happy hedgehog. Confetti and the words "Delivery successful!"

The free demo of A Short Sail is out! It plays in a desktop browser on itch.io, with nothing to install. I wrote about what you can do in it on the blog: The free demo of A Short Sail is out. Here I want to write about how I made it.

Where the demo stops

The demo is the real game, built with one switch turned on. It ends when you earn your second Golden Thread. By then you have had time to sail, deliver mail, fish and meet the islanders. A thank-you screen tells you the demo is over.

The title screen says Demo, so you always know which one you are playing. I made that label white with a dark outline, because it was hard to read over the sea.

For streamers and video makers

You are welcome to stream the demo and make videos of it, and you can earn money from them. You do not need to ask. I wrote the details on the press page, with screenshots, trailers and a note on the music.

If you play it, I would love to hear what felt calm and what felt fiddly. Thank you!
