I spent a lot of today on the light. A Short Sail is a game about being out on the water in the evening, so I wanted that moment to feel like a small gift.
Golden light
The sun now sinks low at sunrise and sunset, and the shadows grow long and soft. A bright gold band sits where the sky meets the sea. The far water mirrors the sky in lavender and turns warmer toward the sun. The clouds go pink and lilac.
The sea also takes the shadows now. Your boat, its sail, the piers and the palms all shade the water. A soft mist hangs in the distance at those hours.
The light swings from the sun to the moon with a gentle fade, so no shadow ever flips round in one jump.
A boat that rests
When the boat is slow or still, a thin ring of foam hugs the hull and swells a little as she dips. Soft rings spread out across the water every few seconds. When you move again, the usual wake takes over.
Softer footsteps
I also gave every kind of ground its own step sound. Sand is brighter, so you hear it over the beach waves. Wet sand has a soft splash of its own. Grass is a little louder, and cobbles are quieter.
Calm for everyone
The wake and the light effects are calmer when Reduce motion or Reduce flashes is on.
I hope you stop for a moment and watch the sun go down. Thank you for reading!
