Devlog #6

Easier fishing, and a longer boost

Fishing no longer lets a fish get away, the sail boost lasts longer, and digging gives parcels, not coins. Plus less waiting on cards and boards.

A card shows a freshly caught tuna, ready to drag from the sea into the boat inventory grid.

This week I played the game like a tired person on a quiet evening. Some parts asked for too much. Today I made them kinder.

Fishing that always lands the fish

The catch meter now fills slowly by itself, and much faster while the fish is in the net. It never drains. So a fish always gets landed in the end. Harder and rarer fish take longer, and the wait for a bite is shorter.

Tomo’s sturdy line helps too. It speeds up the reeling once you have it.

A longer boost

The sail boost lasts twice as long and comes back twice as fast. The sail now holds one burst for each Golden Thread you have, shown as gold dots on screen. The sail glows gold during a burst, and the view opens up a little with the speed.

Digging gives parcels

Digging never gives coins now. Every X mark and barrel holds a parcel that fell from Pip’s boat, ready to deliver. Gus’s metal detector also beeps near X marks, quicker and brighter as you get close, as it does for deep treasure.

Less waiting

A new item’s card closes after about half a second, and a notice board after a fifth of a second. A quick double press in a talk no longer picks an answer you have not read.

Small touches

Fishing has more feel: the cast swishes, the float plops, the bite tugs and the reel clicks. On a controller, you get light rumbles for these.

A Short Sail should feel like a gentle walk. I hope this helps. Thank you for reading!
