How we checked

For each game, we read Valve’s own Steam Deck compatibility report on October 4, 2026. All 11 games here are Verified, the top rating. We also looked at two games we love that did not make the cut: Webfishing and Spilled! are rated Playable, because some text is small and the button glyphs do not match the Deck. They still work, but they need a little more effort.

Lengths are HowLongToBeat main-story times. Review summaries are from Steam.

The list

A Short Hike

Who it is for: anyone who wants a complete, cozy game in one sitting.

You are Claire, a young bird on vacation, and you hike, climb and glide your way up an island peak to get a phone signal. It is gentle, funny and a little wistful. The chunky pixel look can feel soft on the Deck screen, but you can change it in the settings. The only real downside is that it ends so soon. If you loved it, see our cozy games like A Short Hike.

Developer: adamgryu | Year: 2019 | Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux, Switch, PS4, Xbox One | Length: about 1.5 hours | Steam: Overwhelmingly Positive | Deck: Verified | Steam page

Unpacking

Who it is for: players who want a quiet puzzle with a story told through things.

You open boxes and put a person’s belongings away, one move at a time across many years. You learn who they are from what they keep. It is wordless, warm and quite moving. It was made with a mouse in mind, so placing small items with a stick is a little slower.

Developer: Witch Beam | Year: 2021 | Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux, Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, mobile | Length: about 3.5 hours | Steam: Very Positive | Deck: Verified | Steam page

Lil Gator Game

Who it is for: players who want “A Short Hike, but more.”

You are a young gator who wants to play make-believe with a busy older sister. You climb, swim and glide around an island and help other kids with their games. You bop cardboard “baddies,” but there is no health bar and no game over. It is short, but sweet the whole way through.

Developer: MegaWobble | Year: 2022 | Platforms: PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox | Length: about 3 hours | Steam: Overwhelmingly Positive | Deck: Verified | Steam page

TOEM

Who it is for: players who like slow, funny, observant games in short bursts.

You ride the bus through hand-drawn, black-and-white towns and solve people’s problems by taking the right photo. It is witty and relaxed. Aiming the camera with sticks is a bit slower than with a mouse, but it never needs to be fast.

Developer: Something We Made | Year: 2021 | Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux, Switch, PS5, Xbox | Length: about 3.5 hours | Steam: Overwhelmingly Positive | Deck: Verified | Steam page

Smushi Come Home

Who it is for: players who want a tiny hero in a big, soft forest.

You are a little mushroom, lost far from home. You glide on a leaf, climb and swim, and help the forest creatures you meet. It is gentle and low-stakes. One Deck note from Valve: it does not support an external controller as the main controller, so play with the Deck’s own buttons.

Developer: SomeHumbleOnion | Year: 2023 | Platforms: PC, Mac, Switch | Length: about 3 hours | Steam: Overwhelmingly Positive | Deck: Verified | Steam page

Dorfromantik

Who it is for: players who want a calm puzzle they can pick up and put down.

You place hex tiles to grow a countryside of fields, forests, villages, rivers and rails. Each tile can bring a small quest. It is meditative and easy to learn. If you chase high scores, late boards get busy and harder to read on a small screen.

Developer: Toukana Interactive | Year: 2022 | Platforms: PC, Mac, Switch | Length: open-ended (about 5 hours to see the main goals) | Steam: Overwhelmingly Positive | Deck: Verified | Steam page

Stardew Valley

Who it is for: players who want one cozy game to live in for months.

You restore an old farm, make friends in a small town, fish, and explore. It is warm and built on daily routine. The menus and inventory are dense, so text can feel small on a 7-inch screen. The mines also have light combat.

Developer: ConcernedApe | Year: 2016 | Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux, Switch, PS4, Xbox One, mobile | Length: open-ended | Steam: Overwhelmingly Positive | Deck: Verified | Steam page

Cast n Chill

Who it is for: players who want fishing to calm them down.

You drive a little boat through side-scrolling pixel-art waters with a pet for company, catch fish and buy upgrades. An idle mode lets the game fish on its own. The loop is repetitive by design, and long idle sessions will drain the battery unless you plug in. More in our relaxing fishing games.

Developer: Wombat Brawler | Year: 2025 | Platforms: PC, Mac, Switch 2 | Length: about 16 to 18 hours | Steam: Very Positive | Deck: Verified | Steam page

Spiritfarer

Who it is for: players who want a long, gentle story about care and goodbyes.

You build up a boat that ferries spirits to the afterlife, and you look after your passengers on the way. It is tender and beautiful, and it deals with grief. The middle stretch has a lot of fetching and crafting.

Developer: Thunder Lotus | Year: 2020 | Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux, Switch, PS4, Xbox One, mobile | Length: about 25.5 hours | Steam: Very Positive | Deck: Verified | Steam page

Sail Forth

Who it is for: players who want sailing to be the whole game.

You command a small fleet across a big, colorful ocean, explore island regions and fish. The wind system feels real but stays easy to learn. It is not combat-free: you fight pirate ships with cannons. See our cozy sailing games for more.

Developer: Festive Vector | Year: 2022 | Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox | Length: about 16 hours | Steam: Very Positive | Deck: Verified | Steam page

Dredge

Who it is for: players who like a calm loop with a creepy edge.

You captain a small fishing boat around remote islands and fit your catch into a grid-style hold. Daytime fishing is soothing. But nights bring horror, sea monsters and a dark story, so it is not fully cozy.

Developer: Black Salt Games | Year: 2023 | Platforms: PC, Mac, Switch, PS, Xbox, mobile | Length: about 9.5 hours | Steam: Overwhelmingly Positive | Deck: Verified | Steam page
